Also, there is a great column about tuning the guitar in the ultimate guitar, but it might seem pretty difficult at first to understand, but you should save the text for later use, cos it's useful.

Here it is.

Good, but don't forget it. Wink

Try to read it every now and then to see if you get what it tries to tell you.

Meanwhile, here's the basic method (using your ear):

Here's how you tune from a perfectly tuned Low E note.

1. Hold down the 5th fret of the Low E string and pluck it and the A string
2. Listen for a beating or pulsating. The faster the beating the more out of tune it is.
3. Adjust the A string until there is virtually no beating.
4. Hold the 5th fret of the A string and pluck it and the D string.
5. Repeat again holding the 5th fret of the D string to tune the G string.
6. Repeat again holding the 4th fret of the G string to tune the B string.
7. Repeat again holding the 5th fret of the B string to tune the E string.

And with the tuner you can check and correct, if the strings are not in tune while you go on with the tuning, because every tiny mistake you make adds to the next one, you know.

Also, always tune up, never down, as the string keeps the tuning better that way. If you tune a string too sharp, then loosen it and tune it up to the correct pitch again.
