Noel wrote this with Evan Dando on 28 August 1994, while high on drugs! It was included on promo versions of The Lemonhead's "Car Button" album, but Noel eventually refused for it to be commercially released, describing it as "not up to the standards I set myself", and "sh*te"!!

Noel only ever played this song live once in April '96, radio broadcast 107.7 The End, Seattle, USA.

Here are a few quotes from Evan Dando about it: dont personally see the Roll With It similarities myself....... and there is no doubt that it was Noel's decision to stop it being released, although the promo album is easily availabl and not particularly collectable.

"We met about a month ago and hit it off, then last night we collided in Paris. We'd both been playing the Lowlands festival in Holland this weekend and we wrote a song together called 'Purple Parallelogram.'"

Evan Dando – Danbury News Times, 5/10/05

What's the deal with the song you wrote with Oasis, "Purple Parallelogram," which was earmarked for the "Car Button Cloth" album?
"Oh, it was about these Rohypnol I used to get prescribed — these sleeping tablets. And Noel (Gallagher) got up in the morning and started singing the beginning of it and then we finished it. And it wasn't a very good song. So he said he didn't want it on the album and I was kind of relieved anyway because the label was trying to pressure it to be the first single. And I didn't like it that much. It sounded kind of like 'Achy, Breaky Heart' to me anyway. I was just doing it because he said he wanted me to do it. And then when I did it, I guess it didn't turn out good enough. And also he kind of used the melody of it for 'Roll With It' anyway, so it kind of had already been done."

Evan Dando – 19/11/96

“Initially, I put it in the sequence, then both Noel and I decided that it wasn't really record-quality," says Dando. "It was just really goofy I'm actually very happy that it didn't make it on the record."

Lyrics (bit sh*t, although I do like the "The bad bit is the end, Got it all backwards, but I tend to blend"):

PURPLE PARALLELLAGRAM (E.Dando/N.Gallagher)
Purple parallellagram
I got in Amsterdam
Made me dream a dream I didn't understand
Thought I heard you say that you're so proud of it
Do you wanna dance with me?

The best bit's the first part
The bad bit is the end
Got it all backwards, but I tend to blend
Why'd you have to say that you're so proud of it
Do you wanna dance with me?

Gonna make it easy
Gonna take it easy
Zipped up jacket
Really cost a packet
Still you wanna dance with me

Purple parallellagram
I got in Amsterdam
Made me dream a dream I didn't understand
Thought I heard you say that you're so proud of it
Do you wanna dance with me?

I got a paper cut
Pictures of Gwendolyn
Got it all backwards, but I tend to blend
Why'd you have to say you're so proud of it
Do you wanna dance with me

Gonna make it easy
Gonna take it easy
I'm not the same
But I make all pain
Now you gotta dance with me

Gonna make it easy
Gonna take it easy

Purple parallellagram
I got in Amsterdam
Made me dream a dream I didn't understand
Why'd you have to say that you're so proud of it
Do you wanna dance with me?
Do you wanna dance with me?
Now you gotta dance with me
Now you gotta dance with me

i've never heard this before, but then I never really listened to The Lemonheads, maybe it's now about time I did. not a bad collab. It has a very 60's poppy sound to it Smile

I found an acoustic version of it sung by Noel Gallagher plus an interview about it, I'll upload it in the downloads section shortly Wink
