Hey guys I'm new to the forum and have just started using scales after playing guitar for roughly 4 years, this guide has really helped a lot but I just got some questions.

The key a song is in, is that typically the note that the song starts off with? Also, what determines what type of scale the player uses (Pentatonic, Blues, etc.)? Is it up the the guitarist to choose? Thanks a lot.

It's mostly so, but not always I think. It's a good basic rule, though. I think you should attend to the whole chord progression to see what key they all belong to, but I'm not an expert when it comes to the scales and keys.

Don't Look Back In Anger is in C but Noel uses the A pentatonic scale doesn't he? similar to Let It Be (in C and uses the A pentatonic scale?)

Say Big M I've looking at the chords that go with the scales. Eg the chords that go into the Key of G for the G major scale. Know of any websites that can help with this?

He uses Am penatonic, which is different. Its because C penatonic and Am penatonic are the same scale. It's called the Diatonic scale.

Jarvis is right though. Its not always the first chord.
