The idea to have teams from 4th to 7th play a play off for the final Premier League Champions League place has (thankfully) been rejected

I really can't see why anyone has thought of this idea if they want a play off at the end of the season
The FA Cup is no longer a big deal with teams no longer taking it seriously - we hear this every year!! How much more of a big thing would it be if at the end of the season we had a 4th vs FA Cup winner for that final CL spot
If the winner alreay has a spot the runner up gets the play off place so last season Everton vs. Arsenal for the CL spot - the match would have high viewing figures and pretty much guarenteed sell out
if both finalists are in the CL spots come the end of the season then 4th vs. 5th

I think the prospect of the 4th to 7th teams having a chance of the C/L is a joke

its already bad enough that 4th gets it anyway.

finishing 7th is virtually mid table, why should you get to enter the same competition as actual champions.

I agree the FA cup winners should get the 4th spot, as theyve actually won something

How can you argue that finishing 7th and qualifying would be a joke, yet a team could win 6 (?) games out of 44 and that would be fair?

because the FA cup is a set competition with set rules.

and the team that wins it is a champion of those rules.

and they win 6 out of 6, not 6 out of 44, cos the other 38 are another entity altogether

unlike a team who might finish 7th and be anything up to 40 points the champions, but they get into an elite competition for finishing mid table.
